War: Verdun and Civil War

One might think that war is distant from my warmer themes of art.  However, I was profoundly moved by visiting Verdun and Antietam, and these works resulted. We visited Verdun in 2007, during a house swap in France. German artist Franz Marc was killed at Verdun in 1916, and I had always wanted to see where he had died. Antietam was part of a 2006 trip south where we visited 20 Civil War battlefield, 4 Revolutionary War battlefields, historic houses, hikes and more. I found the Civil War battle fields, museums, etc. far more moving than I had expected.
