For a decade or more, beginning about 1989, my husband would take me flying in small Cesna and Piper aircraft.  These images are from those years, when I would videotape much of the flight and then draw from the video later, stopping it as necessary.  These are from Chicago, Asheville, the Oxbow in Northhampton, MA, Lake Winnepesaukee,  Gwynn’s Island in Chesapeake Bay as well as the Tri-State Triptych: Long Island, Block Island and Connecticut.

In January 1990, when I was teaching in South Carolina, my aunt Caroline Delano Wadsworth passed away. She gave me my first art lessons when I was in elementary school and she exhibited some of her traditional works at the Southern Vermont Art Center. My husband took me for a flight over Narrangansett Bay and I thought of her passing into the next world, and thus I created this triptych.
